Prediction of Centrifugal Compressors Performances and Applications for Test, Surge Protection and Machinery Diagnostic

One of the main difficulties for the analysis of centrifugal compressors operative performances comes from the fact that usually expected performances are described in terms of graphs of discharge pressures, discharge temperatures, polytrophic heads, efficiencies and absorbed power, related to the design inlet gas conditions, i.e. gas mix composition, inlet pressure and temperature. However compressor actual performances are strictly related to actual field inlet gas condition that often are different from design ones. The comparison of field measurements to expected values then becomes complicated because the expected performances need to be adjusted to the actual suction field conditions.   Read more>>

An Economic Model to Compare Natural Gas vs. Electric as a Driver Fuel Source

There seems to be a significant push to use electric power as our main source of compression drivers.  With EPA’s emphasis on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and the reduction of toxic pollutants in the upcoming clean air laws, the easy decision is to install Electric Drivers.

This paper will examine this “easy decision” and will discuss the associated costs attached to it.  It will provide the equations and examples to evaluate your next installation and give you the information needed to justify your decision.  Additionally, it will provide a spreadsheet that will compare different types of fuel:  Electric, Natural Gas, Propane, and Gasoline.  Read more >>
